Mourning The Passing Of A Hero

Information  July 11 2007
 — By SNAFU

This is Terri, with some information that I think all the reader’s here at ASP need to be aware of. Today, we’re mourning the passing of a World War II Hero…. CJ’s grandfather, James A. Stuthers Sr., who passed away in his sleep on Monday, July 9, 2007. He’ll be terribly missed by CJ and his family. CJ will be away for the next week to attend his Grandfather’s funeral in Florida and pay tribute to this World War II Hero. May he rest in peace.

Back on February 4th, CJ had participated in February 4th Rolling Victory Fast, that has been sponsored for the past year by The Tanker Brothers, and dedicated his fasting day to his grandfather. You can follow the link to re-read what CJ wrote about his grandfather.

Mr. Stuthers served in World War II as a nose gunner in a B-17. CJ shared his memories of reading his grandfather’s war diary as a child and the awe he felt when reading about his grandfather’s combat experiences. CJ spoke of seeing his Grandfather’s medals and hearing and reading the stories of his war experiences. I can picture CJ as a child, pouring over his grandfather’s combat journal, touching the medals he earned with such pride and awe in the things he accomplished. He was the last of the “Butler’s Bums.” Because of that experience, CJ chose to keep a journal of his own combat experiences, based on the pride and awe he felt when reading about the things that happened to his grandfather, during his combat experience. CJ hoped that his grandchildren will one day read his combat journals and feel much the same as he did.

Anyone who would like to help defray the costs of travel associated with this unexpected passing of this Hero, James A. Stuthers Sr., can use the paypal link here on the page to make a donation. Please know that CJ isn’t asking for a donation, but I know that they have a very long distance to drive and that the assistance would be greatly appreciated by CJ, Emily and the kids. Those who wish to send a card of condolence, can contact me via email, using SNAFU’s link on the sidebar and I’ll be able to provide you with an address to which you can send them, and I’ll ensure that they make it to CJ and his family. Some of you may wish to send flowers to the funeral in remembrance of CJ’s Grandfather. Below is the information on where you would need to have them sent.
Services will be held on Thursday 07-12-07, at the

Let’s all keep CJ, Emily and the rest of their family in our thoughts and prayers, during this most difficult and trying time.

I lost my grandfather 3 years ago who was also a WWII vet. He was and always will be my hero. Being the oldest grandchild my grandmother had asked me to write the eulogy for his funeral. It was the hardest and yet most honoring thing I was ever asked to do.

May all our WWII Vets rest in peace.

  10. Hi, I am CJ’s Aunt Terri down here in Florida. How very touched I am to stumble upon this blog about the passing of Dad. I want to share with you how very Proud we are of our CJ. At the memorial service, CJ, along with 3 cadets from CJ’s Dad’s squad in the ROTC program at the high school, folded the flag that was draped over dad. CJ then presented the flag to his Gramma and explained about Dad’s warrior spirit trapped within the folds. I can’t speak without crying, about the flag being passed around as everyone shed their tears on the flag. We are so Proud and So grateful to have CJ, the soldier, in our family, words cannot express how proud. And CJ, if you read this, know that Grampa spoke and bragged about you, and was so very very proud of you. God Bless you, and God Bless all of you who protect our country, and serve with pride.
