FALSE ALARM!! Unfortunately, it looks like the man that was captured was NOT Abu Ayyub al-Masri. There’s still a lot of speculation on both sides, so I’ll keep following it.

al qaeda in iraq leader abu ayyub al-masri
The leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq, Abu Ayyub al-Masri, has been arrested and captured. You’ll recall that some groups tried to claim that they had killed the leader, most likely as a way to turn off the heat. This is good news for Code Pink who will now have another martyr for which they can obtain legal representation to get him acquitted. They were concerned earlier reports a year ago were correct and that they wouldn’t be able to throw a welcome home party for the leader when he arrived at Gitmo.

More to follow as details come out.

  1. Glad the Iraqi’s got him.

Not the least of which because now when they interrogate him we won’t have to suffer the endless cries of torrrrr-ture!

  2. Just curious, Anon, why does it bother you when America holds itself to the standards that made this country great in the first place?

If you are such a fan of torture, then maybe you should consider living in Iraq!

  3. CF, there you go again, misrepresenting the facts. I don’t see any postings here in favor of torture.

Why would you pretend to think that he said that?

CJ, have they confirmed it this time?

  4. I’m so glad that they captured him! Wonder if he is as gruesome as his predecessor was? Zarqawi was a chopping heads off kinda guy! Guess he’s not chopping heads off anymore!

  5. SSgtJ:

Please reread the very first comment where the author of the comment clearly suggests that when the Iraqis interrogate this suspect, they will apply torture.

    Does that answer your question?

  6. CF, thanks for telling me where you got your info. And, I did reread the post.

The author never said that anyone would actually torture the prisoner, rather that we would be ACCUSED of torture.

“we won’t have to suffer the endless cries of torrrrr-ture!”

I think the writer was talking about the bogus charges that would be made if we even had him in our custody.
